The pace setting business executive, Caroline Thompson has carved a niche in the business sphere as a very successful executive with an impeccable record of achievements. She is currently the Business Development Manager at Ask Bongo, the largest SMS information service in Australia. The entry of the company has stirred the market by attracting hordes of users, from teenagers to young and older adults. The service works by delivering answers to requested information over the mobile phone. Using her technical and business development skills, Thompson was instrumental in developing the character Bongo, a curious, super-intelligent answering monkey.
Besides offering answers to trivia questions and assignments, the monkey can easily say the alphabet backwards in 100 different languages. This is all possible because the service is backed by a huge database of information, sophisticated applications and a team of skilled researchers. The information service is available to mobile phone users above age 16. As a Business Development Manager, Thompson is tasked with steering the company towards achieving its set out sales and marketing objectives and crafting short and long-term strategic development plans. Thompson studied at the University of New South Wales and currently resides in Bondi Beach, Sydney.
What do you (or your business) do?
Ask Bongo offers a speedy and efficient information answering service through SMS. Users are required to type their name, town and question, before receiving an answer in a few minutes. My brief typically entails analyzing our business strategies and helping the company realize its sales and marketing objectives.
How long have you been in business?
I joined the Bongo to spearhead its growth strategies. However, my interest in business management can be traced back to the University of New South Wales, where I was able to sharpen my analytical, quantitative and communication skills.
How do you stay successful in your industry?
Our business has received a lot of leverage owing to the growing uptake of Smartphone and other mobile devices, which I admit has revolutionized the way people socialize and get entertained. Our high voltage SMS marketing campaigns are focused on the digital display, email, SMS and video advertising. We’ve also managed to sharpen our marketing strategy by using timelines to our advantage.
Have you ever been to Australia?
I am a native of Australia and currently reside in the popular Bondi Beach suburb of Sydney.
What part of Australia?
Bondi Beach in New South Wales is one of the most popular tourist locales in the country. There are several cultural centers in the city, where many films, music videos and television series have been shot.
What is your favorite restaurant to visit while in Australia?
Australia is a fun place to live and work. There are many eateries and restaurants in Sydney that offer great food and relaxing atmosphere. Topping my list of favorites are The Grounds restaurant, Mr. Wong and the famous American Pizzeria, Frankies Pizza, which offers sumptuous pizzas featuring a wide range of standard toppings. The Grounds is a food haven that offers everything from local artisan foods to expertly roasted and brewed coffee.
What is something someone must-do when in Australia?
Australia offers numerous experiences for the outgoing traveler. I am a big fan of the annual Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and Scuba diving at Great Barrier Reef. The three weeks, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is a must see for any foodie traveling down under. Whenever I have time, I also never let an opportunity to grab a selfie at Sydney Opera House escape me.
Would you come back?
Yes, I would definitely revisit all the places I have been to because they are definitely worthwhile and enriching.
Was it a business or pleasure trip?
If you are a business executive, mixing business and pleasure is something you cannot bypass. In between work, I often catch a break to work out at Sydney’s famed fitness centers before dining at my favorite eateries.
What has travel taught you that you have applied in both your personal and business life?
I believe short time travels are very beneficial to the mind, body and soul. First, you get the opportunity to unwind and learn about people from different backgrounds and cultures. From a young age, traveling has helped me build self confidence and learn different languages.
