1. What do you (or your business) do?
We offer a wide range of consulting services, but our principal focus revolves around providing practical solutions and guidance to entrepreneurs trying to break new ground within their respective industries.
2. How long have you been in business?
As an entrepreneur, I’ve been in business for several decades and have founded quite a few successful enterprises during that time. It is only recently, however, that I created McLaren & Associates Consulting with the goal of offering my insight and expertise to aspiring entrepreneurs.
3. How do you stay successful in your industry?
Over the years, I have created and sharpened several simple philosophies that I believe are key to entrepreneurial success regardless of the endeavor. Adhering to these simple yet highly effective philosophies — all while maintaining ample flexibility — has made it possible for me to stay successful while helping others achieve success as well.
4. Have you ever been to Australia?
Yes, and I own a lovely home set in a beautiful neighborhood in Canberra, Australia.
• What part of Australia?
My home is located in Canberra, but I have visited many wonderful cities all over this great country.
• What is your favorite restaurant to visit while in Australia?
Courgette is one of my personal favorites, and every time I return to Canberra I typically make a point to visit the Boat House as well as the Pialligo Estate Farmhouse. It is quite hard to go wrong with any restaurant in and around Canberra.
• What is something someone must-do when in Australia?
Most visitors head to Sydney or Perth and spend most of their time there, and although those are fine cities, Canberra has always seemed like something of an afterthought among tourists. This is a shame, as Canberra is a lovely place to visit.
• Would you come back?
Yes, I always look forward to returning to Canberra and to Australia in general. It is part of the reason I continue to keep a home in Canberra.
• Was it a business or pleasure trip?
My initial visit was strictly business, but I had such a wonderful time that Australia — Canberra especially — has become my adopted home.
5. What has travel taught you that you have applied in both your personal and business life?
In both travel and business, there is a great deal to be gained through research and preparation, but it is real-world experience that provides the greatest degree of insight in the shortest period of time. Obviously, a combination of preparation and experience is always the best course of action when it comes to business and travel.
